Aubrey Plaza is officially a mother. The actress welcomed her first child, a baby girl, with partner Christopher Abbott during the last week of July, according to sources close to the couple. Plaza was spotted in New York City on August 9 holding her newborn while attending Abbott's final performance in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman, marking the first public sighting of the baby.
The pregnancy first came to light in dramatic fashion back in April, when Plaza casually revealed the news during an appearance on the Smartless podcast, telling hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, "There's a baby inside me," while recounting a doctor's visit. A representative for Plaza later confirmed the pregnancy to People, describing it as a beautiful surprise following an emotionally difficult year.
A New Chapter After Loss
The baby's arrival comes roughly 18 months after the death of Plaza's estranged husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, who died by suicide in January 2025. Plaza and Baena had quietly separated in the months before his death, and the news drew an outpouring of support alongside some public reflection on how quickly her life had changed in the time since.
Plaza and Abbott's relationship grew out of a long professional partnership. The pair first worked together on the 2020 Sundance thriller Black Bear and later reunited for an off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023. They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2026 Tony Awards, where Abbott was nominated for his role in Death of a Salesman, before confirming the pregnancy publicly just weeks later.

True to form for two famously private actors, Plaza and Abbott have said little publicly about the pregnancy or birth beyond the initial confirmations, and neither has commented directly on the baby's arrival. Plaza did make a point of showing off her baby bump at Paris Fashion Week in March, sitting front row at the Loewe show in an oversized leather jacket, before mostly staying out of the spotlight as her due date approached.
